View of Human Nature
L.O.V.E. Therapy assumes that every person commits mistake wherein they feel worthless and disappointed to themselves. We view human as a creature who is capable of reflecting or learning from his/her mistakes in order to be a good person, obey his heart in order to be happy, value themselves and other people to live fruitfully and express their true emotions in order to be satisfied and for the other people to understand him. All this can help a person to establish good relationship to others and a good self-concept which can help him to face the reality and overcome the trials in his life. Human doesn't necessarily need a therapy from professionals for him to overcome problems but human needs to help himself and nurture himself.
Development of Maladaptive Behavior
Maladaptive behavior develops when an individual is not able to know himself better and be able to know his/her own strengths and weaknesses. And accept the fact that in every problem, he has done a mistake and not just blame it with other people. When people don't accept that they have made a mistake, when they did not obey or follow the things that they really need or want, the things that makes them happy, when they did not value themselves, they will not also learn to value other people. And express their emotions, ther is a big possibility for them to develop maladaptive behavior. People should first value himself, appreciate himself before he can be able to appreciate other people. In dealing with problems, people should consider the four steps which is L.O.V.E. to prevent the development of maladaptive behavior.
Functions of the therapist
The function of the therapist is to help the client realize that he can solve his/her problems by himself. That he doesn't necessarily need a therapist to solve the problem. The L.O.V.E. therapist believe that patients can formulate the solution to his problems by analyzing the problem and trying to figure out the reasons why this problem arises by reflecting on the mistakes that he has done. The therapist just need to obey, value and express. This are the keys for the patient to overcome his problems. The therapist also restore meaning in the life of the client. They can be of big help to the client by simply being a friend to the client where they can express his/her emotions which help him to express his true self.
Goals of the therapy
The goals of L.O.V.E. therapy is for the client to depend not on others but to himself. Another goal is to help individual reach a point at which awareness and decision making can be exercised responsibly. It aims to develop the cognitive, affective and psycho motor aspects of individual in terms of problem-solving. Cognitive aspects is to-learn/reflect from their mistakes. Affective aspects is to- value themselves and other people and the psycho motor aspects is to-obey their heart and express their true emotions.
